Origins
OU Additive is an Additive Manufacturing company developing a method to help production lines cut costs and save time with their metal manufacturing. Originally, we were nowhere near this train of thought. We originally were founded as OrbitingUp Aerospace Technologies Inc. in July of 2018, focusing on the possibility of Asteroid Mining. After calculating the capital required, OrbitingUp decided it would be too unrealistic to focus on this goal so early on. They decided to achieve the goal in many large steps.
Space Metal 3D Printing
The first step was to build a Metal 3D Printer. The original goal of the metal 3D printer was to print objects in space. Printing in space was the goal for many months after Metal 3D printing became the focus at OrbitingUp. William Henman, the CEO of OU Additive, developed an idea for a metal 3D printer that could function in space. He hired a Mechanical Engineer to help make the idea into fruition, and he transformed it into something that works on Earth. William Henman and his Team saw an opportunity and took it.
Milestones
At the writing of this page, OU Additive is building the final parts for the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) of this metal 3D printer. They plan on finishing the construction of this MVP by February to March of 2022. The development began in October 2020 with the hiring of a Mechanical Engineer. A little over a year later, they have three-quarters of the Prototype built, a Proof of Concept, and the blueprints to finish the MVP. Also, they have capital, advisors, a whitepaper detailing problems and solutions in the industry, and a new name: OU Additive. OU stands for OrbitingUp, a name that will stay with OU Additive forever.
Roadmap
The main goal of OU Additive now is to help the world build metal products at a lower cost and faster rate. Recently, we hired an Engineer, hired advisors, built a POC, built a strategy and plan for the next three years. We expect 2022 to be a big year for OU Additive. With the launch of the Whitepaper, the Low-temperature MVP in March, and partnerships with Institutions for R&D of the product. Furthermore, we will attend events, start events, hire contractors to build our aluminum MVP and grow our social media following in the professional sphere. OU Additive will blow your mind away.
Vision and Future
What’s the end goal? Why are we developing a Metal 3D Printer? This answer has changed and will most likely continue to change. For now, OU Additive wants to become a worldwide contract manufacturing engineering firm to help businesses in countless industries solve some of their biggest problems. While Asteroid Mining may become a reality in the future, we have no plans to pursue this endeavour soon. After our main goal gets achieved, we plan on one-day manufacturing products in space.
